We are seeking an experienced Accountant as Senior Accountant for maintaining the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial data and reports. CLOSING DATE: 18TH MARCH, 2025
PURPOSE Head of People and Culture
The Senior Accountant is responsible for maintaining the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial data and reports. This includes accounts reconciliations ensure accuracy & resolving discrepancies, ensuring accuracy & compliance with accounting principles, participating in month-end-closing, quarter-end and year-end closing processes including the preparation of closing entries.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Senior Accountant
- Review Accounting Entries: Oversee the accuracy and completeness of real-time accounting entries. Ensure transactions are posted to correct accounts; as per substance of the transaction, by deducing the economic, financial & tax implication of each transaction.
- Recognition And Measurement: Ensure proper recognition and measurement of Revenue, Fixed assets, Accrued Interest etc
- Maintain Accrual and Provisions Schedules: Keep accrual and provisions schedules up to date. This should include but not limited to deferred taxes, Director’s remuneration, Interest on bonds & finance leases accrued but not yet paid, accrued utilities, accrued income, provisions for bad debts and legal claims.
- Fixed Asset & Financial Assets (Bonds) Management: Maintain a schedule fixed & financial asset, including proper depreciation and asset tracking.
- Month-End Closing: Participate in month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes, including the preparation of closing entries.
- Account Reconciliation: Perform regular reconciliations of accounts including but not limited to Intercompany transactions, client disbursement account, leave provisions, total payroll cost and salary transferred charges to ensure accuracy and resolve discrepancies.
- Ensure all payments and client disbursements have initially been accrued; corresponding vendor invoices to ensure auxiliary accounts are balanced.
- Check all auxiliary accounts; vendors and individual clients account balances to make sure the correct account balances are reflecting by comparing with the trial balance.
- Identify and ensure the impact of foreign exchange transactions (forex cost) are correctly posted and allocated to the correct entity.
- Budgeting and Forecasting: Assist in the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts.
- Internal Controls: Ensure adherence to internal controls and compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Audit Support: Work with internal and external auditors during financial and operational audits, providing necessary documentation and explanations.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Working closely with internal and external auditors during financial and operational audits to provide all necessary support documents.
- Continuous Improvement: Identifying areas for process improvement and proposing best practices to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Standard Operating Procedures: Participating in the formulation and maintenance of our accounting desk manual to serve as reference for the posting of transactions and to maintain consistency of accounting records across all entities.
KEY COMPETENCIES REQUIRED FOR SUCCESS IN THIS ROLE:
Education and Qualifications: Senior Accountant Head of People and Culture
- Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Professional certification such as ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants), CPA (Certified Public Accountant), or DSCG (Diplôme Supérieur de Comptabilité et de Gestion).
Experience:
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in accounting or finance, with at least 2-3 years in a senior or supervisory role.
- Experience working in Cameroon or a similar OHADA-compliant environment is highly desirable.
Technical Skills: Senior Accountant
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g Sage).
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other financial tools.
- Familiarity and ensure accuracy and compliance with Cameroonian accounting standards (OHADA – Organization for the Harmonization of Business Law in Africa) and international standards (IFRS).
Soft Skills: Senior Accountant
- Financial Acumen: Demonstrates expertise in managing general ledger operations, financial reporting, and adherence to accounting standards.
- Compliance Orientation: Ensures adherence to accounting policies, regulatory standards, and audit requirements.
- Analytical Thinking: Applies critical thinking to analyse financial data and identify trends.
- Attention to Detail: Ensures precision in financial records and reporting.
- Strategic Thinking & Adaptability: Aligns financial strategies with organisational goals while adjusting to changing circumstances and priorities.
- Integrity & Confidentiality: Upholds ethical standards and ensures the confidentiality of sensitive financial data.
- Time Management & Prioritization: Effectively manages time to balance competing priorities and ensure timely completion of all tasks and reporting deadlines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
